A communal workshop and collective of over 100 makers, designers, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, and artists who love to build stuff

About Us

We’re part of a global network of makerspaces – places where people do creative projects, such as electronics, 3D printing, crafts, woodworking and food hacking. Our main purpose is to provide tools and a space in which our members can gather, collaborate and learn from each other. People can beaver away on their own projects, or take part in exciting group projects in a playful and friendly environment.

We are a not-for-profit community run entirely by volunteers. Our members pay a monthly subscription that goes towards paying for the workshop space and providing equipment, amenities and assets for the group.

The Space

Main Space

The main space of Build Brighton is the social hub with a kitchen to make refreshments and a large table to chat around. It is also where the electronics bench is kept and where members storage boxes are.

Messy Workshop

The messy workshop is where we keep all the woodworking and metalwork tools. There are handtools, powertools, and plenty of workbenches to work on your woodwork projects.

Clean Workshop

The clean workshop houses the 3D printers, laser cutter, and large format printers. These are kept away from the dustiness of the messy workshop.

Covid-19 Update: Build Brighton is once again accepting new members!

Open evenings have resumed, allowing you to visit the space, take a look around, and ask any questions you may have. If you're interested in joining, we can run you through the sign up process.

Open Evenings are usually held Thursdays 6-9pm, with some irregular weekend afternoon dates available on enquiry. You can arrange to attend one now if you would like to join.

There are currently spaces available, though there has been a high level of interest post-lockdown, so we'd advise attending an open evening and joining ASAP to secure a space. If you are interested in joining, or you have any questions, please e-mail info@buildbrighton.com.

The rule of 6 for indoor mixing is applied, with sanitiser freely provided in the space. Members use a booking system and personalised electronic keys to log entry to the space and ensure your sessions do not exceed 6 simulatenous users. At 1300 square feet, social distancing within the workshop is easily achievable.

Users must wear face masks and sanitise regularly while in the space, and practice social distancing between users of Build Brighton and other studios.

We look forward to meeting you!

Open evenings are an informal event where members regularly come to work on projects, get help, share ideas, and socialise. It’s also the best opportunity for visitors to come along for the first time.

We will give you a tour so you can get a feel for the type of projects being worked on, meet some of our members, and see the equipment and resources we have before you join.

You can find us at: Rodhus Studios, Freehold Terrace, Brighton, BN2 4AB. Please get in touch to let us know you're planning to come along.
